“The women who inspire and shape our lives are the women next to us. Our daughters, mothers, grandmothers, friends and work colleagues”

This project aims to give visibility to the strong female leads who carryout the ordinary tasks of their daily lives in an extra-ordinary way, challenging old concepts, driving innovation, breaking the mould with bravery and determination, and carving out their very own space in the workplace.

These women are changing the face of healthcare, driving positive changes across the NHS, and pushing towards inclusion, access and equality. Shifting the perspective of a new generation of young women to see what it is possible to achieve.

I see the women I work with as a source of strength, and by asking many colleagues at OUH to name three female working colleagues that they find inspiring, fierce, and yet fair, compassionate, and generous, it amazed me to learn that the answer came in many shapes, in a variety of backgrounds from Care Support Worker, Radiology Assistants, Manager, Nurses, Radiologists, Directors, cleaners, Sonographers, Radiographers…we are a community whether we are aware of it or not. We inspire others to be their best selves, to embrace their own dreams and turn them into a vision, and it is imperative to keep on rising and lifting others along the way.

This project will celebrate in portrait form, 50 amazing women who were nominated as inspiring by their colleagues from their department, and our first portrait exhibition will be held from the 13th of March 2024.

Hopefully, this will be one of many exhibitions. Each year nominating women from different departments within the OUH, celebrating the accomplishments of our incredible colleagues as well as raising funds for the Oxford Hospitals Charity to continue to do the incredible work they do.
