I was fortunate to rediscover art about ten years ago. I have also been blessed with an art group which guided and supported me through my epic journey of learning how to use oil paint and pastels. Over the years my confidence has grown and I’ve produced several commissions – mainly pet portraits in pastels and a few still-life oil paintings.

I love the softness and flexibility of oil. It allows me to exploit the simple beauty, forms, colours and light of still life. I use any composition that catches my eye  - apples, pears, figs, flowers and fish. I’m inspired by the  Dutch old masters who had a knack for capturing an atmosphere with their still life  - Ashmolean has some great examples. I’m also in awe of Van Gogh’s use of vibrant colour and have attempted my own version of one of his Sunflowers.

As a nurse, people are also close to my heart and I have a fascination with portraits. This area is a work in progress for me, as accuracy is so important to capture the likeness and the character. I’m hopeful that my experience with pet portraiture has prepared me for this challenge.

Landscapes are a more recent addition to my portfolio.  I’m working through a list of places which interest and excite me – the moodier the better!

So I have a few oil paintings on canvas boards for sale but most of what I’ve displayed on this site are examples of my work. The majority of my paintings are donated or gifted to friends and family. The rest are commissioned or, rarely, kept for personal use! I hope you like what you see. Art is a very subjective, personal thing. I would be delighted if you decide to buy from the Art for Oxford site or ask me for a commission.
